Description of Ancatha Villa

5 Bedrooms, 4 Bathrooms

Ancatha Villa Overview

This extraordinary villa has all the ingredients for a fantastic holiday. From the bubbling Jacuzzi to the piano inside and ping pong table outside, it's a beautiful and inspiring space for families. There are several layers to the property, decorated in sunny ochre, sienna and cream tones. The enormous patio doors open to reveal a sensational and unobstructed view of the Mediterranean deep blue water, above a gorgeous private beach. Access the beach down a discreet, 30m long lane.

The five bedrooms are fresh, minimal and all have private balconies. Elegant double beds dressed in fine linen and fluffy blankets are perfect to sink into at the end of the day. Sweeping drapes frame the large windows that bathe the bedrooms in light. Most bedrooms are decorated in neutral, but one has cheerful ochre walls and a coral en-suite bathroom, kitted out with modern glass and chrome.

Walk through to the airy indoor space, where there are not one but two living rooms. In one, dark grey sofas pop against the sienna walls, while in the larger living room their buttermilk walls and floor to ceiling windows all around to maximise the mesmerising views. An array of leather seating and armchairs create a luxurious space to play games together and unwind.

The kitchen is perfect for whipping up a feast and is equipped with modern appliances, including an oven and microwave. Glossy red worktops add extra style points. The delightfully rustic dining table is the perfect spot to gather for a tasty home-cooked meal or a takeaway from a local taverna. Decorated in buttercup yellow, it's cheerful and has huge windows where you can look out at the view. Stylish pendant lighting hangs from the ceiling. Alternatively, enjoy an alfresco meal on the terrace outside - at night, the villa is illuminated in warm light.

Outdoor living is an important motif at this property. There is ample terrace space around the villa, as well as lush green gardens punctuated with exotic flowers. On the lower level, Mediterranean plants and olive trees conceal a secret terrace spot, perfect for watching spectacular sunsets over the beach.

The infinity pool is paradise personified. Quirky and irregular in shape but enormous in size, it's absolutely perfect for a swim to cool off from the island heat! In one corner, you'll find the famous jacuzzi - take a relaxing soak to melt away any stress and enjoy the spa atmosphere.

Ancatha Villa Location

Ancatha Villa is perfectly situated just 8km north of Corfu Town, yet wrapped in serene nature and close to the beach. Corfu is the second largest of the Ionian Islands and has strong Venetian influence in the architecture around town, as well as Byzantine. Literally translated as 'a pair of peaks', the island has two hills topped with fortresses that once successfully defended the island from the Ottoman Empire. The largest of these hills has a lighthouse with spectacular views over the sea.

The Old Town is a winding network of narrow lanes, filled with Venetian and Neoclassical architecture, painted in sunny yellow and orange - just like the villa. Just off Spianada Square, where locals congregate for coffee and socialising, is the Old Fortress on the site of an acropolis atop a rocky peninsula. Visitors can walk up to the highest point for breathtaking views, passing a small chapel and museum along the way.

Liston Arcade is a lovely spot to explore, full of famous cafes and with a promenade inspired by the Rue de Rivoli in Paris. It is so atmospheric with its graceful archways and is the perfect spot for people-watching with a coffee in hand.

A visit to Gastouri is a popular choice for visitors to Corfu. The village is also known as Acheillio, after the famous summer palace of Empress Sisi of Austria. Located just 30 minutes away, the palace draws intrigue due to its historical and cultural significance. The palace was built in 1898 by an Italian architect and Greek sculptor with inspiration from Greek mythology. Iconic statues of Zeus, Hera and Achilles himself are dotted around the palace, which is surrounded by dazzling gardens and boasts incredible views of the Ionian Sea.

A popular trip from Corfu is to nearby Pontikosini (Mouse Island) where there is a tiny Byzantine monastery surrounded by pine and cypress trees. According to local legend, this is the spot of Ulysses' ship after it was turned to stone by the wrath of Poseidon. The island gets its name as it's said to be the outline of a mouse when you look at it from above.

A beach day is always a good idea in Corfu - and with so many to choose from, you could try a different beach every day! Canal d'Amour is a popular beach in Sidari, the northwest side of the island. This beach has gorgeous sand and turquoise water, but the unique element is the rectangular rock with a gap that you can swim through on a calm day. It's said that couples who swim through together will get married within the year.

A spectacular beach on the west side of the island is Agios Spyriodon - you can drive across the island to reach it. Two-tone, crystalline waters make up the bay, and an endless stretch of golden sand makes up the beach. Many of the beaches have pebbles in this area, so this beach is considered one of the best. The monastery of Agia Ekaterini stands proudly nearby, as well as plenty of coffee shops and restaurants.
