General Information on Agistri

Agkistri ("fishing hook" in Greek) is a small island and municipality in the Saronic Gulf. There are only three settlements in Agkistri - Milos (Megalohori), Skala and Limenaria. Milos (pop. 566) is the main village of the island. Skala (pop. 448), a twenty-minute walk along the coastal road from Milos, has most of the tourist facilities. Limenaria (pop. 128) is a very small village on the other side of the island with very few tourists. Total population is 1,142 inhabitants, according to the 2011 Greek census. Its land area is 13.367 km².

Megalohori: Capital of the island, this village was once used as a resupply station for passing ships. Picturesque, cobblestone alleys, traditional cafes, interesting people and an imposing windmill contribute to the beauty of the area. Stone houses, whitewashed porches, tiled roofs and traditional elements of the past are harmoniously combined with modern hotels and venues.Tucked within the pine forest near Megalohori, the chapel of All Saints calls the visitor to get in touch with the history of the island, as it is in the area where the ancient settlement of Kandoundi once lay.

Metohi: Between Megalohori and Skala, on the hill slopes, lies Metohi, overseeing the area. Don't miss the opportunity to walk all the way to the chapel of Virgin Mary, as the view is fantastic. A traditional family restaurant under the pine trees will satisfy your gastronomical urges.

Beaches in Agistri

Megalohori: Around Megalohori, there is a number of beaches that are worth visiting, as the crystal-clear waters, the bays in the area and the fine sand create an idyllic destination for tourists.

Aponisos: West of Limenaria, the exotic beach of Aponisos awaits for you. Shaded by pine trees, this beach reminds of otherworldly places, offering relaxation and serenity. The nearby tavern offers excellent food by the sea.

How to Reach Agistri

By sea: There is a daily ferry service from Piraeus to the port of Skala; the trip lasts approximately 2 hours. Hydrofoils also reach Agkistri from Piraeus on a daily basis; the trip lasts 55 minutes.

Agkistri is also connected to Aegina with a hydrofoil service. Please consult the timetables at the port of Aegina for more information.

Getting Around in Agistri

In Agkistri, there is a 12-seat private bus service on the route Skala - Megalohori - Limenaria - Aponisos. There is also a taxi service available.
