General Information on Fournoi
Fournoi is a cluster of small Greek islands near Ikaria, Samos and Patmos in the North Aegean region. The two largest islands of the cluster are Fournoi (31sq.km-12sq.m) and Thymaina (10sq.km-3.9sq.m). They are inhabited, as is Agios Minas (2.3sq.km-0.9sq.m) in the east. Fournoi is also the largest town, followed by Chrysomilia and Thymaina. Fournoi town has the main ferry port.
Many of the inhabitants are fishermen, although during summer, the population is also involved in tourist activities, mostly room rentals and catering.
History of Fournoi
There is little information of the island's past. What is known is that Fournoi was the main marble supplier of ancient Miletos, and it is suggested that the first inhabitants here were Ions. During the Byzantine era, Fournoi were abandoned and were therefore used as pirate dens.

Fournoi: The main village has 1033 inhabitants, who are mainly occupied in fishing or farming. At the hill of Agios Georgios, lie the remains of a cyclopean wall with carved stones; in the past, there were also an acropolis and a sanctuary in the area.

By air: Samos is the closest island with an airport. You may then take a local ship to Fournoi.
