Villa Chlomos View Location
Chlomos is one of the oldest villages in Corfu and one of the most picturesque. Some call it ‘the balcony of Corfu’ for, at its altitude of 270 metres, it offers the most fabulous breathtaking views towards the southern part of the island, the deep blue Ionian Sea, Corfu’s eastern coastline and over to the mainland. Chlomos offers several charming tavernas. Its cobblestone alleys are lined with old mansions, one of which belonged to the Despot of Morias, Thomas Palaiologos, the brother of the Emperor Konstantinos Palaiologos. On the opposite side of the island and not far from Villa Chlomos View is the fabulous Chalikounas Beach and Lake Korission. Chalikounas boasts a sensational, golden sandy beach, the crystal clear deep blue waters of the Ionian Sea and the natural beauty of the protected Lake Korission. The beach enjoys a couple of beach tavernas and organised sections with sun loungers and umbrellas. There is a kite club in the middle section of the beach where you can learn to kitesurf. Visitors enjoy strolling along the full stretch of the 2.5 km beach or taking a wander around the shimmering Lake Korission as well as fishing and watersports. The saltwater lagoon, Lake Korission is a must for wildlife lovers. The lagoon was created by the sand dunes that cut the lake’s basin off from the sea. The lake is over 5 km long from one end to the other and roughly 1.5 km at its widest. The lake is home to native and migrating birds including seagulls, owls, buzzards, swallows and if you are lucky, flamingoes.
The nearest beach to the villa is Boukari. Boukari is a picturesque fishing village roughly 25 km south of Corfu Town. The main beach enjoys crystalline shallow water so is perfect for children and fantastic views. The beach is surrounding by olive groves that provide natural shade. The village is famous for its fish restaurants. Close to Boukari is the fishing village of Petriti with its pretty little marina that is home to a couple of cosy tavernas where you can sit and watch the colourful boats come and go. The scenery is lovely and its a great spot for people watching with a cold glass of Mythos or a carafe of local wine.
Messonghi is another fabulous village within easy reach of the villa with a good selection of restaurants and bars and a few supermarkets and shops. It is a small resort that merges into Moraitiki. There is a boat hire company at the northern end of the beach which is great for those that want to explore the coastline by themselves. There are also plenty of boat tours if you do not want to go it alone.
You cannot miss a trip into Corfu Town, the birthplace of the late Duke of Edinburgh is one of the most beautiful, graceful and elegant towns in Greece. Corfu Town falls between two great Venetian coastal fortresses and within lies a very modern capital brimming with elegant mansions, magnificent palaces, beautiful squares and no fewer than 39 churches including the beautiful Church of Saint Spiridon. The Duke of Edinburgh was born at the fabulous Mon Repos Palace. Next to the palace gardens you will find the calm waters of the Mon Repos Beach. To the north, you will find Faliraki Beach. The town’s stunning architecture has many influences including Sicilian, Venetian, French and English. The entire Old Town is declared a UNESCO World Heritage site, a tightly-packed warren of cobbled winding lanes bursting with lively bars, boutiques and fine restaurants. You will also see timeless alleys with the day’s washing stretching from balcony to balcony, such a pretty scene, especially with colourful bougainvillea draped everywhere. There are also some interesting museums including the Byzantine Museum of Corfu which is housed in a 15th century church. Others are the Museum of Ceramic Art, the D Solomos Museum and the Asian Art Museum.
