Villa Kefalos 1 Location
Kos is the third largest of the Dodecanese islands between Kalymnos and Nisyros and just 4km from Bodrum Bay, Turkey. Kos has so much to offer with its sandy beaches, vivid nightlife, quiet secluded bays, water sports, historic buildings and monuments and fabulous restaurants and cafes. With over 290km of attractive coastline, Kos has more than its fair share of beaches. You will find golden swatches backed by gorgeous, fragrant pine trees and beach bars, hidden coves and little-known, secluded coves. Whitewashed villages speckle the alluring hillsides and wildflowers blanket the fields. The slopes of Mount Dikeos are peppered with pine forests and enchanting castles. Asklepion, the holistic medical centre of Hippocrates, Neratzia Medieval Castle and Antimachia Castle are some of the best historical monuments to visit.Villa Kefalos is south-west of the airport roughly halfway along the south coast. It is not far to one of the major party towns, Kardamena. Its streets are packed with English pubs, karaoke bars and strobe-lit clubs. There is a 3km sweep of silver sand with sun loungers, a huge choice of watersports and a full back-up of bars and restaurants. Some guests like to go fishing on the jetty and some of the local restaurants will cook your catch if you book for a meal.
Kos Town is the other lively tourist city. It is the island’s capital and boasts a superb Medieval castle and a mind-blowing array of ancient ruins from the Greek, Roman and Byzantine eras as well as a buzzy port lined by cafes and tavernas. Excursion boats, fishing vessels and luxury yachts all bob and bristle against each other along the waterfront. The town square is home to a fabulous museum and features some extraordinary architecture.
Roughly an hour by boat from Kos you can visit Nisyros Island. The capital city, Mandraki, is charming with whitewashed houses and a 15th-century monastery above it. Perched on the rim of a volcanic crater, the entrancing mountain village of Nikia has houses with brightly coloured doors and the square is paved with black pebbles. From here you can walk to the bubbling volcano floor.
