Villa Pelekas View Location
The delightful village of Pelekas is set on a rocky hill surrounded by lush greenery on the west coast of Corfu and only 12 kilometres from Corfu Town. Villa Pelekas View is located just below the village and within minutes of the stunning Blue Flag Pelekas Beach. Above the village is the Kaisers Lookout where Kaiser Wilhelm II frequently visited to admire the spectacular sunsets off the west coast. The peak enjoys majestic views of the evergreen north and east sides of the island, the rugged south west coast and the crystal clear Ionian Sea. Pelekas boasts several tavernas and cafes plus plenty of shops. A bus runs from the village’s main square to Pelekas Beach. Not far from Pelekas is the renowned 18 hole par 72 golf course in the lush Ropa Valley. Equipment rental is available. Pelekas Beach is just 200 metres from Villa Pelekas View. It is a miniature version of Glyfada Beach with fine golden sand and a good array of watersports. Pelekas is fringed by the natural beauty of timeless olive groves, a beautiful spot where you will easily relax.Close by, you will find the mighty Glyfada beach with its buzzy bars, restaurants and watersports. Gialiskari Beach is a tranquil small sandy bay full of pine trees offering shade and huge rocks. There are a few tavernas. Another beautiful beach is Myrtiotissa, surrounded by pine trees and rocks, a perfect choice for nature lovers.
Corfu Town is one of the most attractive old towns of Greece and the birthplace of the late Duke of Edinburgh. Falling between two great Venetian coastal fortresses, it is a maze of cobbled narrow streets brimming with elegant mansions, magnificent palaces, beautiful squares and no fewer than 39 churches including the beautiful Church of Saint Spiridon. The Duke of Edinburgh was born at the fabulous Mon Repos Palace. Next to the palace gardens you will find the calm waters of the Mon Repos Beach. The town’s stunning architecture has many influences including Sicilian, Venetian, French and English. The entire Old Town is declared a UNESCO World Heritage site, a tightly-packed warren of cobbled winding lanes bursting with lively bars, boutiques and fine restaurants. You will also see timeless alleys with the day’s washing stretching from balcony to balcony, such a pretty scene, especially with colourful bougainvillea draped everywhere. You will discover shops and stalls selling local items such as wild honey, fig cakes and handmade lace. There are also some interesting museums including the Byzantine Museum of Corfu which is housed in a 15th century church. Others are the Museum of Ceramic Art, the D Solomos Museum and the Asian Art Museum.
South of Pelekas you will find the wonderful Agios Gordios Beach, one of the most popular beaches on Corfu. It took its name from the Church of Agios Gordios which is located literally on the sea, at the centre of the beach. This beautiful cove is nestled amongst the lush green mountain and surrounded by olive groves, vineyards and rocks. A huge rock, the Ortholithi, emerges from the sea. Agios Gordios offers a stunning landscape, it is no surprise that it is so popular.
Further south still is Chalikounas Beach with its sensational, golden sands, the crystal clear deep blue waters of the Ionian Sea and the natural beauty of the protected Lake Korission. The beach enjoys a couple of beach tavernas and organised sections with sun loungers and umbrellas. There is a kite club in the middle section of the beach where you can learn to kitesurf. Visitors enjoy strolling along the full stretch of the 2.5 km beach or taking a wander around the shimmering Lake Korission. The lake is a coastal lagoon separated from the sea by the fabulous Chalikounas Beach. The lagoon was created by the sand dunes that cut the lake’s basin off from the sea. Lake Korission is over 5 km long from one end to the other and roughly 1.5 km at its widest. The lake is home to native and migrating birds including seagulls, owls, buzzards, swallows and if you are lucky, flamingoes.
Just south of Corfu Town, Gouvia is a charming, former fishing village which is now a modern holiday resort with plenty of amenities for all ages. It boasts a pretty pebble beach and a stunning marina. It also offers many atmospheric restaurants, bars and cafes along the main street of the village. Its 18th century shipyard is still remarkably intact. The views from Gouvia are really stunning with the sparkling Ionian Sea and Corfu Town on the horizon.
