Mindful minimalism meets the Greek way of life with a stay at Villa Zia, Oku Resort, on the Aegean island of Kos. Built in the style of an old Greek house, the Oku Resort recreates a traditional village, with its own private access beach. Villa Zia is a two bedroom, two bathroom villa, set over two storeys, and has as much relaxing and entertaining space outside as in. The villa can comfortably accommodate up to four people, and would be perfect for a small family or friend’s sharing holiday. The villa is decorated throughout with natural woods, local textiles, and exotic accessories, all in a colour palette of blacks, browns, grey, cream, and billowing whites. The villa comes with complimentary Wi-Fi and air-conditioning throughout, a safe for your valuables, and a chargeable minibar. The ground floor has an open plan living area with a large squishy sharing sofa and occasional tables, a 43” flat screen television, a wireless Marshall Audio Sound Bar with Bluetooth, and a direct dial telephone. There is an adjacent fully equipped kitchen with a Nespresso machine for that must-have morning coffee. The master bedroom is located on the ground floor, furnished in browns, creams and whites, it has a king size bed with COCO-Mat mattress, wardrobes, and side tables. There is an ensuite bathroom with a Naturel rain shower, handbasin, and WC, and complimentary Meraki amenities. Step through the floor to ceiling sliding doors to the terrace, where you will find a private pool and generous outdoor living space. Take the stairs to the first floor where there is a second bedroom, with a king size bed, and an ensuite bathroom with a Naturel rain shower. Here you will find a furnished terrace with an elephant grey sofa and natural wood accessories, and a stunning as far as the eye can see sea view. The roof terrace is ideal spot to relax with a sundowner as you watch the sun set, or dine alfresco under the stars. Villa Zia Location
Villa Zia is set in the exclusive Oku Resort, near the town of Marmari, on the north coast of the beautiful island of Kos, in the heart of the Aegean Sea. The villa is a short fifteen minute drive from the international airport, and just twenty minutes from Kos town. Villa Zia is within walking distance of the local town of Marmari, where you will find sandy beaches, beach clubs, water sports, bars, cafes, and restaurants, as well as shops stocked with all you will need for your holiday. Oka Resort is built like as a traditional Greek village set within its own grounds and gardens, with a large swimming pool. The resort has its own private beach spotted with loungers and cabanas for you to relax and sun bathe, and easy access to the warm Aegean Sea. There is also an hotel with a restaurant serving delicious farm-to-fork Mediterranean cuisine, and healthy specialities including vegan and vegetarian options. A visit to Kos town, the capital of the island is a must, situated on the north east tip, it’s a twenty minute drive away. Here you will find a mix of the ancient, medieval and modern, as you wander historic streets, pass the Castle of the Knights of St John, Greek gymnasiums, original agoras, and Ottoman mosques. Neratzia Castle is an imposing fortification over Kos town, whilst the Roman Odeon is just outside. Visit a restored replica of a fifth century BC house in Hippocrates Garden, and sit under the plane tree, where the father of modern medicine reputedly swore the Hippocratic oath. Make your way to Eleftherias Square, the town’s meeting place in the centre of Kos, where you will find the Archeological Museum, stuffed with artefacts from the island’s history. Or enjoy the simple pleasures of some homemade meze and local wine, as you watch the world go by. The island of Kos has a plethora of sandy beaches for sunbathing and water sports, and shallow warm waters for swimming and snorkelling. Further afield you will find the Alikes Salt Lake and Wetlands, where you can spot flamingos and pelicans. Or visit one of the many wineries, sample their wares, and take some local wine home with you. If you are feeling really adventurous you can island hop from Kos to the adjacent Dodecanese destinations of Kalimonos or Pserimos, or get on the ferry to visit Bodrum in Turkey.
